Meet Sue Rex

Like her husband Jim, Sue Rex has spent her entire career dedicated to serving children and families through public education.  As a former classroom teacher and college professor specializing in special education, Sue knows first hand what it takes to provide excellent education for every student in South Carolina - not just through quality K-12 initiatives, but at the college level as well. 


Sue RexIn addition, Sue is the author of more than a dozen books and articles aimed at providing young adults and parents with the tools they need to be successful in school and in life.  For her extensive work and advocacy on behalf of South Carolina's public education, she has received countless honors, including the South Carolina Counseling Association's Humanitarian award, President Bush's Point of Light award, and Jefferson Pilot's annual award for outstanding public service.


Sue holds a B.S. in elementary and special education, a master's degree in special education, and an Ed.D in special education and administration.  She is a retired Winthrop University professor, and now sits on the college's Board of Trustees.  Throughout 2006, Sue will be spending her time on the campaign trail with Jim, working to communicate their shared vision for improving South Carolina's schools.  


Sue and Jim live on Lake Wateree in Fairfield County and share four children – Jeffrey, Siri, Adam, and Nathan.
